Gratitude notes for April 2018
- There’s a moment during any physical activity where you go from “stuff hurts” to “I don’t care and this is awesome”. It’s a little gift you get for doing something you enjoy. I got there at dance tonight and feel so lucky.
- I’m thankful that my world is one of opportunity. I know what it feels like to see the world as hopeless, and I’m grateful that I’m not there. I don’t know if it’s something you can work towards or if it has to be something you’re given. Either way, I’m very lucky.
- I really cherish the moments when people want to talk to me or include me in a group conversation. In the moment, it feels natural, but those are the things I get to carry with me as I grow older. For somebody to choose to include me in their lives in any small way is a gift, and I’m very thankful for those moments.
- It’s so nice when other pedestrians lock eyes with you and offer a “good morning” or even just a smile. I got to have that a lot this morning and it felt good each time.
- I’m grateful that I’m able to run and exercise and enjoy my body each day. Health is half of it, and then a physiology that turns exercise into euphoria instead of exhaustion is such a gift.
- I’m thankful that I get to casually spend time with Dad. Our perspectives are so compatible that there’s virtually no friction in our relationship. I’m grateful that we get along so well.
- I never had a teenager growl at me from the passenger seat of a car before. I caught his eye and stood there laughing at the crosswalk. I watched long enough to see him and his friends smile at me as they drove off. Nice growl, kid.
- My co-worker caught me jogging late to work this morning. He slowed down in his car long enough for me to realize it was him, then punched it, smiling as he took off. I chased him to the end of the block and watched him laugh at me from the other side of the street while he enter the building. I’ll get him next time!
- I’m thankful for dinner buddies. It’s nice to know people well enough that they make you feel like family. I’m very lucky to have them.
- I’m grateful for people I work with who make me feel like I’m part of a community. It reminds me of the familiarity I used to feel back in school. It feels good. I’m lucky to have that.
- I had a “moment” last week when I realized that my meal portions had become a problem. I feel so great that I’m able to take that realization to heart and turn it into a modest diet. My body feels great as a result.
- I had a fantastic time at dance class tonight. It was a particularly popular class, which made it feel even more exciting and enjoyable.
- I’m really thankful that I have so much opportunity in my life, from my work to where I live to who I spend my time with. All these things just are and I’m so grateful.
- I laughed at a zombie in a Universal Studio theme park attraction today. Then it snuck around and popped out at me. I’m thankful that my scream was a deep-pitched, manly scream. That could’ve been really embarrassing.
- I’m so thankful for my dad. He and I communicate on the same level, and I think I’m really lucky that we have that.
- I’m really grateful that I have a job I like that doesn’t demand every waking hour of my time. It’s a fantastic opportunity I’ve been afforded to be able to invest my time in things like my family and activities I enjoy. There are many people who don’t have that same privilege.
- I sat with my Dad at the beach watching waves and people go by for hours today. It was one of those moments where nothing mattered but the present. It’ll be one of those memories I carry with me for the rest of my life.
- I’m thankful for the difficult exercise this morning. That punishment is going to lead me to stop giving into my food cravings and start eating like a rational person, again.
- I’m grateful that I live in such a nice, safe place. I have everything I need to live a life without worry of survival, and it lets me reach for opportunities that wouldn’t be available to me if I were consumed with simply making it through the day.
- I got to hear a lot about how my co-workers grew up and how they got into the roles they’re in today. Their stories are so fascinating and vastly different than my own.
- I’m thankful that the red velvet cake I baked this morning turned out well. I had a fun time making it, and a surprisingly large amount of it was eaten today.
- I’m grateful for people who ask great questions. They force me to think, and when they don’t judge, I get the opportunity to feel safe and grow with a friend. I’m lucky that I have people like that.
- I’m so glad I’m able to make time for some dancing each week. It’s a lot of fun and it feels great. Thanks for hosting, Casie.
- On my way to work, I realized my biking posture was perfect for twerking. I practiced and laughed the whole way there and back. I’m already getting better at it.
- I’m thankful for the patience to try new things, like bake a red velvet cake from scratch. I’m also thankful that I now know how incredibly packed with sugar and fat every cake is, especially red velvet.
- I walked to work today so I could carry my dry cleaning from from next to the office. I really ought to walk more often.
- I had a ton of fun coding today. There’s pleasure in creating order that is hard not to enjoy. Nothing stays organized for ever, so I’m glad I could find satisfaction in it today.
- I’m so lucky that I have as much energy as I do. I had somebody ask me over the weekend where I get my energy from, and the truth is that I don’t know. I’m thankful that I get to enjoy that energy while it lasts.
- I fell off my bike trying to wave thanks at someone today. It was the dorkiest thing I’d done in a while. I had a good laugh sitting there on the sidewalk next to my bike.
- I’m grateful for a fun evening at a Dodger’s game. I didn’t expect to enjoy the game that much, but I was pleasantly surprised. I’m also lucky that I got to see it with fun, happy people.
- I’m thankful for my health and well-being. I get to dance around and be silly, all because I have the physicality to do so. I’m very lucky that I can do all that without even thinking about it.
- I’m grateful for the fun, happy people I get to see each day in the office. They brighten my day just by being there and being happy; I’m so lucky that I get to be part of that each day.
- I’m thankful for the opportunity to carve out time for myself each day, and even more so for the days when I put it to good use. It’s a gift I’ve been afforded that not everybody gets to have and even fewer fight for.
- I’m grateful to be alive in today’s day and age. From what I can tell, The people around me and I all have more opportunity than we evne know what to do with. I could schedule a flight anywhere in the world next weekend and just go. I can talk to and meet anyone I encounter in my everyday life. These are all things that have been impossible for many but possible for me. I’m grateful for those opportunities.
- I’m very thankful that I have such close, loving relatives who are so much fun to spend time with. It was such a great wedding this weekend!
- I spent one of my flights sitting between people who I had a fantastic conversation with. Each of them had such interesting stories and perspectives, and it was a real treat to get to meet each of them.
- I’m grateful that I’m able to meet people who are open to seizing life and sharing it with me. I could never reach those heights alone, and I’m so lucky that I have the opportunities to meet those who can take me there.
- Today was an overall great day. There wasn’t any one thing in particular that went well; I’m just lucky to be leading the life I am.
- I’m so lucky that I know the people I know, whether I see them everyday or haven’t seen them in over a year. The world can be a really friendly place when I let it.
- I’m thankful for my health. I usually am healthy, and so it’s easy for me to forget how easy it is to lose it.
- I’m thankful for those who have patience with me when I make a mistake. Instead of burying themselves in ill-will or grudges, they make themselves available for understanding. I’m so lucky for that.
- I got to have fulfilling, deep conversations with the people I see everyday today. I love those conversations. I think we all grow closer when they happen.
- I’m grateful for my mother, who cares deeply for me no matter what. I’m so thankful for how clearly I’m able to see that now.
- I bumped into a really friendly lady in the elevator today. We talked about our days as if we were roomates going about our normal routines. I like those moments.
- I’m very lucky for the people I get to work with every day. It’s very fortunate that I have happy, optimistic people surrounding me; it’d be harder to keep my own jubilation without them.
- I’m thankful for my oxygen high from descending 10,000 feet yesterday. I believe it’s a treat because it’s so infrequent, and I definitely enjoy it while it lasts!
- I’m so grateful for the friends I grew up with. It’s such a treat that we all get together each year for some dedicated chill time.
- I met a lot of cool, friendly people along my drive today. People are just happy to chat and make a quick friend. Super interesting how that attitude seems to correlate with different geographies.
- I’m thankful for a gorgeous drive today. 15+ hours went by in a blink, ranging from a snowscape to 90+ degree weather. It felt like a mini vacation in itself.
