Gratitude notes for September 2017
- I had a good meeting with a friend from ballroom dancing. We’re both working on our businesses, and it felt good that he wanted to take the time to help me. He really helped me define my audience better.
- I had a great chat with Mom today. Now that I’m learning marketing and sales, we have this whole new subject matter to relate on.
- I ran into a kid on my jog that I’d accidently scared the crap out of over the summer. He smiled with recognition when he saw me, which is the only reason I recognized him. Small moments like that make me feel a part of the area I’m living in.
- I’m grateful that I went to another BNI meeting this morning. It was quickly revealed to me that my consultancy pitch isn’t clear enough, and I wouldn’t have known that if I didn’t try this new meeting.
- I’m thankful that I tried out a meetup today, leading me to do more research into leaders I look up to, leading me to take a free course at seanwes.com.
- I’m glad about being part of the ballroom dance group tonight, having a community that looks forward to me and I look forward to.
- I went to my first BNI meeting this morning and had some superb conversations with a handful of different people. I feel lucky that I scheduled it last-minute the previous night.
- I gave my first free consultation and it went great! I stumbled through the first 2 minutes of it, but but the end, I completely clarified someone’s problem for them and what their next steps should be. I’m grateful that I got to help somebody like I did. It gives me great hope for this new line of work I’m in.
- Got to see my buddy at the restaurant he owns. It feels good to be welcome somewhere that feels like “home”.
- I’m thankful that most of my contacts so far have been super responsive. It makes my learning curve shorter and helps me help them faster.
- I really fell into Zumba tonight. I’m never in control of how far I can fall (in a good way), so I always feel fortunate when I’m able to enter that mental space.
- Someone I met at a meetup wanted to join my newsletter! That gives me an opportunity to make worthwhile content for them. Gives a whole new meaning to the newsletter for me, now.
- My friend Chelsea at Smith & Starr celebrated their one year aniversary today. It lifts me up to see friends succeeding doing their own thing.
- I passed by a mother and two children at the train station today. I was jogging on a narrow walkway, so they backed up and let me go first. I tried my best to wave them through, assuring them that “I’m not one of those.” We laughed. It kinda made my day.
- I met a handful of really cool people at a local meetup. I learned a ton about how others found their niche, how they currently handle IT services, and what their current business stuggles are. I also really enjoyed their company.
- I finished Simon Sinek’s “Find Your Why” on audiobook during my run today. Having gotten a good idea of my “why” previously, I feel a positive eagerness (excitement?) to identify my “hows” next.
- Having a belly full of appetizers, I had a lot of energy at the ballroom dance studio this evening. The extra energy translated into fun that’s usually reserved for practice parties.
- I felt good about my narrative writing exercise this morning. I write a fictional story for 10 minutes each morning, and it’s getting much easier to write compelling stories without thinking about it. The improvement is really rewarding.
- I got through my cold today! I felt it coming two nights ago, ate my way through it yesterday, and slept a full night to healthiness this morning!
- It was a beautiful day which made for a great run. I also discovered Two Steps From Hell’s “Unleashed” album, giving a cinematic edge to my experience.
- It got my services pages set up today, along with my first newsletter. They were super-easy to write, which made them enjoyable to accomplish.
- Had a strong Zumba class this morning. It was especially fun when the Georgies and I got to do a dance in the front of the class.
- Enjoyed spending time with Mom today. The weather made for a pleasant day outside.
- Learned a lot by reading the first few chapters of “Quiet” by Susan Cain.
- I developed a first draft of my “why” statement: “To illuminate possibilities for others so that they may seize opportunities for themselves.” It feels right, although I’m sure the language could be clearer.
- Great run today. Beautiful weather led to busy streets that were fun to be a part of.
- Wrote my first article about focusing on problems before MVPs. I think I did a good job of keeping it lean yet personable.
- My lawyer has been fantastic about making my legal entity matters super smooth and easy. I want to make my clients feel the same way about their projects.
- Had a great conversation with Dad. I’m having trouble pinpointing what kind of content I should put up on my site to help others, and I’m hearing that simply understanding how to get the most out of a website is a pain point I could address.
- Had dinner and a good conversation with a friend who helped me with my Why Discovery Course tonight.
- Successfully made a lasagna.
- Started my public gratitude journal. I think this’ll be a good exercise in gratitude and overall positivity.
